Katha Mehfil

Nurturing a Love for Stories and Learning
At VHS, Katha Mehfil is a year- round celebration of stories, voices, and imagination. This engaging initiative brings immensely talented speakers and storytellers such as Mrs. Vaishali Kulkarni and Mrs. Sonale Kane to interact with our students, creating enriching experiences that go far beyond simple narration. Lead by Mrs. Kulkarni, these sessions are designed to be dynamic and multisensory, often involving live storytelling, expressive voice recordings, dramatic enactments, and the use of diverse props that capture the imagination and stimulate all five senses.
Each Katha Mehfil is a carefully curated experience that encourages students to become active listeners. Through these sessions, they develop a keen attention to detail and begin to appreciate the power of language- its rhythm, tone, and the subtle nuances that make storytelling such a timeless art. More importantly, these sessions help sow the seeds of a lifelong love for reading, inspiring children to discover new worlds between the pages of books.
The stories told often include rich folk tales and age- old narratives that carry deep moral lessons. As a part of the experience, students also engage in thoughtful discussions about the origins of these tales- how they’ve been passed down through generations, the cultures they come from, and the wisdom they continue to offer in our modern world. This fosters not just curiosity, but also a deeper cultural and emotional connection to storytelling.
A recent Katha Mehfil proved to be an unforgettable session. Mrs. Kulkarni’s captivating style and emotive storytelling drew students in completely, sparking awe, reflection, and laughter in equal measure. Her performance was more than just storytelling- it was an immersive journey that brought each tale vividly to life.
Our students eagerly await every new session of Katha Mehfil, knowing each brings with it not just a fresh story, but a new way to see the world, to learn, and to feel. It is truly heartening to see their eyes light up with wonder, their imaginations soar, and their minds engage, one story at a time.
